January 2007 Classroom Photos Here are some photos of our friends working in different areas of the classroom. The student in the first photo is learning to add using beads. Counting the beads is a concrete way of learning how when we add numbers together the numbers get larger. The second photo shows a young student building her concentration by stringing buttons. The third photo shows a student enjoying art and mixing watercolors together. The fourth photo shows two children working with the color tablets. They are fine tuning their visual discrimination skills by matching the name cards to the color cards. The last photo shows a student learning the "Continent Song."
After Christmas Break . . . We were all glad to return to a normal schedule and see our friends again. Here are some photos of the children working and visiting together. The first photo is of two friends working on the fraction circles together. The second photo shows a group of friends gathered around the table watching a friend do the "100 Board." He is putting the numbers in order on the board from 1 - 100. Below is a photo of two friends working on their numbers together as they chat.
Here are some photos of children working independently over the last few days. The children are able to choose to work together or alone throughout the day. Just like adults they like to balance this time. In the first photo below a child is doing the "Open and Close" work. Each item in the basket has different types of open and close mechanisms. The second photo shows a child matching shapes to make a picture. The second row shows a child doing bead counting by 5's. This work takes a lot of concentration and time to complete. The last photo shows a child practicing sweeping by doing a work where she sweeps feathers.
Show and Tell from the Dominican Republic A friend in our class went to the Dominican Republic over the Christmas break and brought back some neat things to show his friends.
We talked about where the Dominican Republic is on our globe.
We looked at a picture book from the Dominican Republic.
Here are a few of the items he brought back from his trip. There was finger coral from the beach, coffee beans that we could all smell and an instrument that we all tried out. We also got to see the money they use in the Dominican Republic and some postcards. It was a lot of fun to learn about a new place. |
