Elementary Dad's and Mom's Nights

During the evenings of January 12 and January 19, the elementary classroom will be open for current elementary students to show their moms and dads the classroom and what projects they have been working on.  The classroom will be open between 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for students and their parents to stop in.

Please plan to bring only one parent per child. There are  two evenings scheduled so that each parent can observe and have time for one on one interaction.  When two parents come together, or a parent and a sibling come with the elementary student, the dynamics change.  Please plan to make arrangements for siblings to have alternate care so that adequate time can be spent with your child one on one.  You may even elect to go have a special treat afterward to end your special evening!

Dad's Night is Tuesday, January 12 and Mom's Night is Tuesday, January 19.

Here are some photos from January 12.  Parents and grandparents got to take a look at some of the subjects and projects that the elementary students have been working on lately.

Food Pantry

The elementary students have been very busy collecting money and gifts for the Kendall County Food Pantry (KCFP).  Their two year long collection drive netted over $400 for the pantry which they delivered on Wednesday, December 16.  Five upper elementary students were on hand to make the presentation.  These particular students have been making trail mix, decorations and crafts to sell to their younger classmates, family and teachers.  Through the process, these children have learned about pricing and marketing along with reinforcing adding skills as they run their "shop."  The younger students in the class have watched the process and have become interested in finding a community service project of their own.

In addition to the cash donation, the children dropped off a large amount of toys to the pantry.  The toy drive was the idea of one of the older students who felt a passion to give toys to children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to open presents on Christmas day.  When she presented the idea of a toy collection box to her classmates, the other students jumped on it and within a week's time, the entire school had come together to donate a van load of gifts for the pantry to distribute at Christmas.

Maria Spaeth, Executive Director of KCFP, was on hand to receive the gifts and gave the students a tour of the facility, along with Diane Hardecopf, Assistant Director.  Spaeth told the students that $1 in donations can buy $6 worth of food at the Northern Illinois Food Bank.  This means that the $400 the children raised will buy over $2400 worth of food which is about 20,000 lbs of food.  She told them that is enough to stock the pantry for about two weeks.

After the tour the students stayed for about an hour to help the pantry organize for Christmas.

Snow Days

During severe winter weather there may be school closings.  Please check our website (News Page or Home Page) to see if Peaceful Pathways is closed.  We also try to list our closing with www.emergencyclosingcenter.com but sometimes their website becomes slow on inclement days when so many schools are reporting.

Playing in the snow is so much fun!

We are seeing a lot of birds off of the classroom decks this winter.
