October 2007 News

Parent Teacher Conferences

Conferences are this Thursday evening and Friday during the day.  There will be NO SCHOOL this Friday, November 16, 2007.

Building Concentration

As the children are working in the second month of school, it is easy to notice how the children are settling into being a community and showing signs of strong concentration.  Here are some examples of what has been happening in our classrooms during the past  couple weeks.

Cloth washing is sensorial and works the pincher grasp.

Using the hole punch strengthens the fingers and attention span.

Notice how each child is focusing on the work they have selected - cutting, wood polishing, hand washing, spooning and punching work.

The children are focused on geometry works.

Learning about the continents is always fun!

Here is a student working on counting and beadwork.  By allowing the children to choose work they often become interested in a subject and study it for some time - much like a scientist would do an experiment time and time again to make sure the results are consistent.

Elementary Explores the Outdoors

The elementary students spent some time outdoors looking for different types of leaves and tree bark formations.  They collected and labeled the many types they found and have brought them into the classroom to find out more information.

Small Hands Catalog Orders

Our Small Hands catalog orders are due this Wednesday, October 24.   Please turn your order into your classroom teacher.  Remember there are many items that make excellent Christmas gifts for friends and family as well as practical items that all families should have for children ages 1-6.

Community Meetings

Community meetings are a time for parents and teachers to talk together and find out what is happening in your child's community or classroom at school. At these two meetings we will be discussing the areas of the classroom and ways you can help your child at home. There will also be time for group questions about the materials or community happenings in your child's classroom. The two evenings will be covering different topics so please plan to attend both nights. This is a parents only meeting - please arrange childcare for your child. Thank you!

If your child attends primary class at the Cedar House the meetings are Monday, October 15 and 22 at 7pm.

If your child attends at the Children's House the meetings are Tuesday, October 16 and 23 at 7pm.

*** NOTE THESE MEETINGS WILL BE AT THE CHILDREN' S HOUSE CAMPUS on 10/22 and 10/23.***
