Montessori In the Home

Montessori is not only an educational approach, it is essentially a philosophy of life.  This evening will offer parents an introduction to practical translation of Montessori's insight into our family life.  Topics will include how to organize our homes to facilitate the growth of our children's independence and growing sense of kindness, responsibility and compassion. We will look at specific strategies for setting a tone of warmth and respect, establishing positive expectations and limits and organizing the physical environment at home to include children.

This program is appropriate for parents, grandparents, and caregivers of toddler, primary and early elementary aged students.

Tuesday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m.  Please call or email the school to R.S.V.P so we can rent a chair for you!

Small Hands Catalog Orders

Small Hand Catalogs were sent home a couple weeks ago with each family.  Please take time to look through the items in the catalog and consider purchasing items for Christmas and birthday gifts this season.  This will benefit both the school and you.

 Benefits for YOU include:

- NO shipping costs

- NO Tax

- Great gifts to give children between the ages of  newborn and 12 years old.

The teachers have taken the time to make a list of suggestions for children in your child's age range.  Please call the school office if you are interested for a list of suggestions for 0-3 years, 3-6 years, or 6-12 year olds and we will send a list home with your child.

The items will be shipped to the school in November and distributed to families at that time.

Benefits for the school:

- 15% of all orders will be given to the school in voucher form which helps us restock our classroom breakables and purchase quality books to use in our classrooms.

Teachers have also put together a "wish list" for each classroom if you are interested in purchasing a gift for your child's classroom.

Orders are due to the school office by Friday, October 16.

Discipline Toolkit Workshop

On Saturday, October 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Susan Tracy, M.Ed. will present the most-requested of her parenting tools in a one-day workshop for moms and dads. Susan is a mother of four, Montessori teacher, and an educator of parents since 1989.  She is the director of Learning Together Parent Education Center in Palatine, Illinois.

In this workshop, Susan Tracy will give you 20+ effective tools for preventing and solving problems.  This is practical information based on years of observation, practiced with Susan's four children, and applied in hundreds of families.  Parenting is a challenge for anyone... and these tools have even helped families with special needs children, emotional and behavioral challenges, and those struggling with anger and abuse.

Susan wants this experience to change your life!  When you register, you will receive some preliminary "homework" so you can benefit immediately.  You will receive reading materials and assessments to create a parent notebook. After the workshop, you receive follow up emails and a 30-minute phone consultation with Susan.

Tools don't work unless you use them!

…so Susan has added follow up emails containing a few pages of reading, a fun quiz, or homework.  Topics reinforce what you learned in the workshop:

Sleep
  • Are children AND adults well-rested? This improves health, safety, patience, learning, mood…
  • Are mornings rushed and stressful, or pleasant and peaceful?

Food

  • What to provide, what to avoid, and how to follow through on your good intentions
  •  How to get a child to eat (this is a real FAQ, and the answers are surprising)

Family Relationships

  • How can each parent strengthen their relationship with each child?
  • Relationships between children – Parents worry about sibling jealousy and fighting.
  • Only-child issues

Home Environment

  • What to keep, what to eliminate or limit, what to buy
  • The Hierarchy of Toy Pickup
  • How the environment plus the adult can encourage independence

Behavior Challenges

  • How could you prevent this problem?
  • Which tools would respectfully resolve the problem? Did these tools work?

Parent Coaching with Susan Tracy may be scheduled if needed.  Remember, a 30-minute session by phone is included with your workshop registration.
