Summer 2009 Summer Fun at Peaceful Pathways Summertime fun has begun at Peaceful Pathways Montessori. Here are some photos of our first week . . .
Primary students went on a nature walk through the prairie. On the way to the prairie we stopped to see if there was a robin nest in the lilac trees.
The children found that if they looked closely at the prairie plants they could find small insects. We talked about the other animals that are found in prairie lands.

In the photos above, notice the strength of the fingers as these young boys hold the paint brushes. This prepares the hands for writing with less fatigue.
Working with the maps and identifying the countries and states is fun year round!
Building words and sentences with the letters helps build confidence in the child's reading skills. At first the words are phonetically sounded out. Corrections in spelling are made with a simple movement of the letters as opposed to having to erase work that was done on paper. This allows the child to work without becoming discouraged by mistakes when they are first learning to read, write and spell words.
The skeleton puzzle above is just about the right size to match the child's body! The second photo is a young girl using the "sound box" to match sounds. The red and blue cylinders have matching sounds. This exercise helps train the ear to hear different loud and soft tones.
The elementary students went on a nature walk to find flowers and plants to press. Older students help guide younger students that are new to the classroom.
Elementary enjoys a special painting project!
Summer Program 2009 See old friends - Meet new friends - Arts and Crafts - Explore God's Great Outdoors Science Experiments - Watch the Construction of the New Building - Gardening Make Connections to Core Curriculum Areas of the Classroom
This summer we
are excited to announce our first summer program for students ages 3 - 12. We
are very excited about this program as it allows students to explore the
outdoor environment at Peaceful Pathways Montessori during the summer months
when plants are blooming and the shade of our trees is welcoming.
Remember playing
outside in the summers as a child? Making play homes in the bushes? Noticing
all the different insects? Picking wild flowers and making bouquets?
Watching the many types of birds and noticing the calls they make? Playing
ball? These are all part of a typical summer day at Peaceful Pathways.
Time will also
be spent gardening, cooking, making crafts, and conducting special science
experiments. The activities will allow the children to experience
practical applications that enrich core curriculum areas of the classroom.
Time will be spent exploring the deciduous forest, meadow, prairie, and water
areas of our campus.
You may enroll your child in one session or
all sessions. Each week will have different activities intertwined with
a traditional Montessori day. Students that come
for the whole summer session will experience the whole cycle of the garden and
other experiments that span over the summer.
All sessions are held at the Cedar House Campus. This program is open to current students, students that have already attended Peaceful Pathways (at discretion of the Head of School) or students that are enrolled for Fall 2009. Session 1 June 1-12 Session 2 June 15 -26 Session 3 July 6- 17
All sessions are from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. each day. Students bring a cold "picnic" lunch that does not need to be reheated. Each session is $200 plus one $15 fee for a t-shirt after April 30. A child may be registered for one or more sessions.
