We anticipate seeking an experienced Lead Elementary Guide for our combined Elementary I and Elementary II community, serving students ages 6–12. This position is expected to become available for the 2028–2029 school year as a beloved guide prepares to retire following more than 20 years of dedicated service to PPMA. An opportunity may become available as early as the 2027–2028 school year to support the continued growth of our elementary community as students progress from PPMA’s younger classrooms.


The incoming guide will join an established elementary program and work alongside a returning elementary teacher, providing valuable continuity for students and families. PPMA is fortunate to have a highly experienced, stable staff, and we are looking for a guide who values collaboration, consistency, and a long-term commitment to our school community.


Job Description:

The Lead Elementary Guide will create and maintain a stimulating, peaceful, and well-prepared Montessori environment that supports students’ academic, social, emotional, spiritual, and physical development.


The guide will implement an authentic Montessori elementary curriculum, present engaging lessons, observe and support each student’s progress, and collaborate closely with families and colleagues. Because PPMA is a Christian Montessori program, the guide must be comfortable leading students in simple prayers to Jesus, incorporating age-appropriate Christian/Bible teachings and songs, and celebrating Christmas and Easter from a Christian perspective.


The guide must also be enthusiastic about incorporating outdoor education, nature study, and hands-on learning into the daily curriculum.


Responsibilities:

  • Plan and present developmentally appropriate Montessori lessons for students ages 6–12.


  • Guide students through the full Elementary I and Elementary II curriculum.


  • Create and maintain a prepared environment that promotes independence, curiosity, responsibility, and joyful learning.


  • Inspire students through Montessori’s Great Lessons and integrated studies in language, mathematics, geometry, science, history, geography, culture, and practical life.


  • Differentiate instruction to meet students’ individual academic and developmental needs.


  • Observe, assess, and document each student’s progress.


  • Support students in developing time-management, organizational, conflict-resolution, and leadership skills.


  • Foster a respectful, peaceful, and inclusive classroom community.


  • Incorporate outdoor education and nature-based experiences into the curriculum.


  • Lead students in simple Christian prayers, songs, and age-appropriate faith-based activities.


  • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, colleagues, and school leadership.


  • Collaborate with the elementary team and contribute positively to PPMA’s stable, supportive staff culture.


  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, parent conferences, and school events.


  • Maintain an organized, attractive, and safe classroom environment.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.


  • The candidate MUST have a completed Montessori elementary credential encompassing both Elementary I and Elementary II (ages 6–12) through AMS, AMI, or a MACTE-accredited teacher education program.


  • Strong understanding of Montessori philosophy, child development, and the complete elementary curriculum.


  • Willingness and ability to support the Christian mission and practices of the school.


  • Enthusiasm for outdoor education and experiential learning.


  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.


  • Patience, creativity, flexibility, and a genuine love for working with elementary-aged children.


  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a long-standing and experienced team.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a lead guide in a Montessori elementary classroom.


  • Experience guiding a combined Elementary I and Elementary II community.


  • Demonstrated success with classroom leadership, family communication, and individualized student support.


  • A desire to make a long-term commitment to the PPMA community.
