Parent Night -
The Development of a Reader and Writer Workshop
Thursday, March 2, 2023
We use reading and writing to communicate ideas, record history, and to escape to places of fantasy. Parents recognize the absolute importance of their children becoming strong readers and look for ways to help their children. Many adults have limited memories of learning to read. The memories we have are directly related to the type of reader we were as children. If reading was a skill acquired from an average amount of effort, we have fewer memories than one that required a greater degree of effort. Regardless of the type of reader we were or how much enjoyment we experienced from reading, both as children or as adults, we are often unsure of how to help our own children acquire the one skill that is the most important skill we have in life.
We would like to invite parents to a presentation where we will discuss the development of a reader and a writer on THURSDAY, MARCH 2, 2023. We will discuss the sequence of skills necessary to learn to read, the materials and techniques used to develop those skills and introduce you to the research on reading development.
Reading is a skill that is truly initiated and nurtured at home. At school we offer experiences, materials, and sequentially planned activities to support what was started before the child began formal schooling.
This presentation is for parents with children of all ages at PPMA!

We will discuss how you can assist your child’s independence, particularly in dressing, undressing, and toileting.
Consistency between home and school is helpful to the child. I hope that our methods are as beneficial to you at home as they are to us at school.

Today a Cross was placed on the property as a reminder of what Christ did for us all. It was made from the beams that once held up the barn on our property for more than 112 years. It is a reminder of God's faithfulness. Thank you Jesus for your sacrifice.
May we always be reminded of Jesus' words, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6
